What does a PHP programmer need to know?

Although a degree in computer science or training in IT is usually a good basis for working as a PHP developer, there are also many qualified career changers in this profession.

The basis is - unsurprisingly - comprehensive knowledge of the current PHP version and its application possibilities. This includes knowledge of common frameworks (such as Laravel, Symfony or Zend) and database technologies such as (My)SQL or NoSQL and of interfaces (such as REST or GraphQL). In addition, PHP programmers should have dealt with MVC or OOP concepts and AJAX.

PHP software developers who are also active on the front end are usually proficient in other technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML or CSS.
