What does a software architect do?
Similar to "artist", for example, "software architect" or "software architect" is not a protected job title in Germany. Therefore, it is rather used to describe a role or function in the development team. Within the team the software architect is responsible for initial steps of the software development. It provides thereby a draft for the structure of a software system (approximately a program, a data base or a back end), plans this and co-ordinates its conversion. In doing so, he communicates with the client, responds to their wishes and advises them. Thus, a software architect is at the same time a computer scientist, a project manager and a customer service representative.
The activity of a software architect can have different main focuses: In general, a distinction is made between an enterprise architect, a solutions architect and an application architect.

What skills does a software architect need to have?
Software architects link the development team and the (internal or external) client and must therefore be able to communicate with both sides at eye level.
There is no special training for this field of work; the basis is usually a degree or training in the IT field and a great deal of practical experience. Software architects are often also programmers. Thus, mastering programming languages in accordance with their area of responsibility is always part of their requirement profile.
As in all IT professions, continuous training is essential to keep up with the latest technical developments.
In addition, an understanding of different software architecture patterns is required. An understanding of cloud and container solutions is also useful.
In addition to comprehensive computer science knowledge, excellent communication skills are absolutely essential for the tasks of a software architect.
